Excerpt

Nature in black and white

Description

The scene is just a spectrum of greens, but in black and white it brings out the structures and patterns and suddenly the tree on the hill stands out against the sky.

Background

This photo was taken by Magnus L Andersson in (/, ) using a Leica M Monochrom (M9) with a Leica Macro-Elmar-M 90 mm f/4.

Comments

I find it difficult to capture nature in black and white, and those images always end up as emphasizing contrasts and differences.

Comments

For this shot, I used the seldom-used collapsible 90 mm Leica lens, and due to the bright light conditions, I could go for extreme depth of field.

Comments

The original suffers from many sensor corrosion spots visible in the sky that I had to remove. When it comes to capturing the nature I like the Agfa APX 25 (Affinity) emulation that substantially brightens the upper mid-tones and highlights turning the sky almost white.
